Time and Space Society – Gardener of Thoughts

“Gardener of Thoughts” begins with alternative-rock guitars and a powerful bass line that quickly builds a strong groove, bringing back the sound and attitude of the 1990s alternative scene. The orchestration provides a solid rhythmic basis, but the song’s true originality stems from its distinctive vocal approach. Rather than using a traditional singing method, the performer delivers the words in an almost spoken-word style, unfolding a story based on a fantasy subject while remaining strongly tied to the rhythm. The words become a vital component of the musical arrangement, as opposed to just something placed on top of it. The use of alternative-rock guitars, a melodic atmosphere, and a focus on lyrical expression suggests Placebo and Suede. At the same time, the vocal style sometimes wanders into more isolated and strange areas, reminding us of The Fall’s no-wave and post-punk aesthetic. This gives the song a consciously unique personality, bypassing the traditional verse-and-chorus structure and allowing the story to guide much of the evolution. The end result is an engaging alternative-rock song in which rhythm and story work together. The bass keeps the song moving, while the guitars add a 1990s vibe, and the almost spoken word vocal style gives the fantastical story a strange sense of immediacy. “Gardener of Thoughts” feels like a song that wants the listener to focus on the lyrics as much as the instrumentation, achieving a mix between pleasing alternative-rock parts and a more experimental, spoken-word-inspired approach.
