Bruno Arredondo – Clouds
“Clouds” opens with slow electric bass notes and beautiful piano melodies, producing a unique atmosphere similar to a movie soundtrack. The open arrangement allows each instrument to evolve naturally, giving the opening a cinematic sense. Rather than rushing to a specific form, the composition unfolds gently, as if opening the pages of a story book. The entrance of wind instruments at 0:58 gives the arrangement a clearly jazz-oriented character, although the music never loses the atmospheric aspect created in the first half. The new additions broaden the sound spectrum while maintaining its calm and mindful rhythm. The use of bass, piano, and wind instruments provides a beautiful feeling of movement, with the various instruments looking almost as characters in a musical story. There is a slight sense of improvisation here, although everything is strictly controlled inside the composition’s dreamy structure. This is a lovely instrumental work that moves at a purposely slow speed, allowing the listener to become completely integrated in its cinematic world. The way jazz, experimental, and atmospheric rock come together without sticking to a traditional song structure has strong memories of Soft Machine, notably Elton Dean’s work. “Clouds” feels more like a musical trip than a standard instrumental composition, slowly revealing new colours and emotions.
