KATIA POJIDAEVA – Tantalizing meat

According to the artist, “Tantalising Meat” explores the concept of women living in a man’s world, as well as the dangerous uncertainty that might surround everyday life, whether it’s walking home at night or being inside your own home. The song quickly creates an uncomfortable atmosphere, beginning with odd, almost abstract sounds characteristic of a vibraphone before the main piece takes shape. Strong electric guitars combine with experimental synths to create a post-punk atmosphere that is dark and unexpected. This arrangement is never fully convenient, as there is always the possibility that something strange will happen at any time. Katia Pojidaeva’s vocals are a key component of this mood. The production gives her voice a particular 1980s character, and her performance combines Pat Benatar’s tougher drive with the enigmatic darkness associated with Siouxsie Sioux. Her tone is dark, controlled, and private, ideally suited to the frightening character of the music. Rather than just sitting on top of the instrumental, the vocals add to the song’s strange character by bringing out the sense of vulnerability and tension described in the lyrics. The guitars provide a lot of distortion and mass, and the experimental synth sounds add another layer of mystery to the composition. Importantly, the production keeps enough dynamics to make the intensity changes powerfully, allowing the song to move between atmosphere and aggression without losing its feeling of space. “Tantalising Meat” is far more than a dark post-punk-inspired composition; it is an unpleasant musical experience based on fear, uncertainty, and the facts that drive its main theme.
