Isvidd – Where the 9 Shadows Fell (feat. Alonso Ramos & Sascha Samayoa)
Isvidd, the Swedish black metal project, provides a track that is strongly rooted in the classic Scandinavian black metal form from the 1990s. “Where the 9 Shadows Fell” builds its identity with fast, violent guitar work and the raw energy associated with bands like Emperor, Immortal, and Dimmu Borgir. The main body of the track is constructed on speed and controlled chaos, with the guitars constantly pushing the song ahead while maintaining sufficient structure to keep the aggression concentrated. The use of synths provides a slight gothic touch, providing deeper atmospheric layers to the typically aggressive black metal core. Another great element is production, particularly mastering, which maintains a good sense of dynamics. Isvidd allows the individual elements to move freely, compared with the excessively compressed “wall of sound” approach or purposefully lo-fi aesthetic common in certain parts of the black metal movement. This provides the guitars greater clarity and makes fast parts simpler to follow, while the synths can have their own area in the mix. The end result is a modern and strong production that honours the genre’s classic sound without simply reproducing its recording limitations. There is also a strong storytelling element to the arrangement. At times, the music changes from pure instrumental violence and into sections that sound like scenes from a horror film, enhancing the composition’s fantasy-driven vibe. These moments give a nice counterpoint to the constant speed, making the music feel more like a unified story rather than a collection of fast paced black metal parts. The final spoken-word segment works very well in this context, sounding almost like the end of a horror film and bringing the song to an appropriately dramatic finale.
