Charnel Crown – In For A Penny
Charnel Crown, a Dublin-based groove metal band formed in December 2025, is made up of four hard-working, working-class musicians. “In For A Penny” makes its goals clear with increasing distortion, angry energy, and a powerful modern metal production (cool mastering!) that gives both clarity and punch. The song opens with crushing metalcore-inspired guitars and savage screamo vocals. The combination recalls Sepultura and Pantera’s groove-driven brutality while also adopting modern metal’s tighter (maybe compressed) production and rhythmic precision. The result is a sound that is classic and innovative. The song’s biggest strength is its tempo. Instead of focusing mainly on speed or heaviness, the band emphasises rhythmic toughness and distinctive guitar work. The riffs are perfectly integrated with the rhythm section, resulting in a constant driving push that maintains the energy high throughout the song. Every section appears to be designed to have the greatest effect without losing musical excellence. Around 1:53, just a little bridge provides a refreshing change of pace before leading into an even stronger sequence of riffs and vocal aggression. This increase finally leads to a short guitar solo, adding another layer of adrenaline before the music returns to its crushing groove-oriented metal. Fans of old-school hardcore acts like Biohazard, combined with the rage of thrash metal and the harshness of modern metalcore, will find a lot to like here. “In For A Penny” is a hard and dynamic metal track that combines old 1990s groove metal inspirations with modern production standards, creating a cool listening experience for heavy music listeners.
