Scarlett Sullivan – Obvious (Track Review)
Scarlett Sullivan is a 14-year-old singer-songwriter from Mississippi, US and Pop/Punk is her “obvious” musical identity. This is a cool track with a pop attitude (melodic vocals, love-themed lyrics, a happy atmosphere) and a punk direction (distorted electric guitar outbreaks, an angry singer, and the track’s short duration). The catchy guitar riffs and a nice production complete the musical package of this track, which is perfect for teenage movies and TV series. My only doubt and argument in this track is that the young artist is not incorporating musical elements from her generation, but rather repeating musical clichés from previous generations, which does not sound bad musically to my older ears, but I would still love to listen to her getting into the smell of the truly “teen spirit” of the 2020s, just as Nirvana did with their generation. Scarlett, you are on the right track; keep up the good work and bring the elements of your generation to the table! Rock n’ roll is hungry for youth and innovation!
