Live Report from WASP In Athens

2 min read

There were announcement at the newsline that Blackie Lawless seems to have followed a different direction at his career and making the decision to make WASP a more light version of the vurglar display of power that used to be. Also he decided to bring out of the band’s playlist, the famous “Fuck Like A  Beast” track. So there where questions about what to expect in the Athens show.

WASP have a new cool album so it was sure that the Athens show would be sold out !! Many people were gathered out of the club without tickets and were waiting the for a miracle to get into the club. Also there were more security staff during the concert, to avoid problems with the mass of the rock people that night. There was no support band so everyone was very nervous trying to find the best place to attend the concert during this dead time. At the stage there were not any special stuff or even the famous microphone – monster of Blackie, nothing that would remind us the sleazy, violent past of the band. It was obvious that they would like to follow a different direction regarding the image of the band. There was only a large screen on the top of stage…

A few minutes after 21:30, the lights went out and the band stormed the stage…From the first note of the music, the screen was showing the promo video of the song that the band was playing on stage. It was some kind of a game with the audience, the 80s band in the screen and the 00s band on the stage were playing the same track.! Sometimes Blackie pretended himself at the video clip by doing the same moves or wearing the same clothes. It was very successful !!! The sound was good and the band played a greatest hits playlist by adding 2 tracks from their new album…During the concert there was a perfect interaction of energy between the band and the audience: people knew and were singing all the lyrics, the band was moving on the stage to satisfy all the people around. After an hour the band waved goodbye but people wanted more and more energy…they wouldn’t leave the place! About 10 minutes later the screen started showing scenes from the American War and the band came up with a cool performance of the song “Heaven Hung In Black” it was just a beautiful and very sensational moment of the band. The show finished with the track “Blind In Texas”, we were already waiting for this since the start of the show… It was a cool show and we can totally understand why they’re so popular in Greece and almost every year they visit our country..
