No-mad – Scatterbrain

‘Scatterbrain’ opens with loud, aggressive guitars and storytelling vocals, setting up an intense and restless atmosphere. As the track evolves, the vocals draw on elements of Swedish death metal, while the music jumps between simple, heavy sections and more technical sections. The song seems to actively resist settling into one particular style, with each change adding another layer to its already unpredictable character. At around the 2:08 mark, the track slows down, the vocals moving towards an urban hip-hop style as the instrumental builds in power. The tension continues to escalate until the song reaches a sound comparable to Rage Against the Machine, combining punk attitude with nu-metal weight and a strong rhythmic drive. Then, at around the 3:11 mark, everything changes again, introducing metalcore elements and even progressive speed-metal touches that recall the technical approach of Watchtower. These transitional moments are surprisingly effective, making them feel like different aspects of the same angry persona rather than completely disconnected ideas. A remarkable variety of influences are packed into ‘Scatterbrain’, but the track never loses its aggressive identity. Death metal, hip-hop, punk, nu-metal, metalcore and progressive metal all make an appearance at various points, creating the sensation of an angry musical box that repeatedly opens to reveal something unexpected.
