Julien Meirone – Filtered
“Filtered” starts with ethereal synths before loud guitars and a powerful bass line take command of the arrangement. The track evolves into an interesting mix of symphonic metal, djent, and synthwave, with the bass providing an excellent basis for the layered instruments. The female vocals offer a new dimension, moving between melodic moments and more aggressive screamo parts. The contrast between the lyrical vocal lines and the harsher performance works very well, producing suspense while preserving the composition’s flow. Behind everything, the djent-influenced guitars provide heaviness and precision, while the synths create a futuristic, almost electronic-rock feel. Their presence is very significant, providing the song a distinct personality while keeping it from becoming a typical metal track. What makes “Filtered” intriguing is the variety of elements that collaborate without sounding unnatural. Progressive elements, modern metal heaviness, synthwave atmospheres, and melodic vocals each have their own place in the mix, resulting in a surprisingly integrated production. The design is experimental but controlled, and the many levels interact smoothly without causing unwelcome frequency clashes. The result is a powerful and atmospheric track that would be of interest to fans of heavier, experimental, and electronic music.
