The Refusers – Buck The System
According to the band, “Buck The System” expresses the growing dissatisfaction of ordinary people who feel abandoned by political institutions, threatened by economic uncertainty, and alienated by powerful elites. The song begins with riff-driven guitar lines that recall the classic rock attitude of Blue Öyster Cult and the raw energy of Dr. Feelgood. From the beginning, the band takes a straightforward and real approach, allowing the guitars to carry the song’s rebellious spirit. As the music moves forward, low-key synth textures are added, bringing warmth to the arrangement while maintaining its guitar-driven nature. The sound hits a good mix between classic rock authenticity and a little modern era edge, while the vocals carry the song’s message with confidence. Rather of complicating the arrangement, the band relies on simple riffs and composition to express the anger and pressure at the heart of the song. With its mix of traditional rock orchestration, punk aesthetics, and politically aware themes, “Buck The System” succeeds on its title. It’s a straightforward rock anthem with distinctive riffs and an honest performance that will be of interest to those who want political-oriented, guitar-driven music.
