The Sickness Stars – Chant of Willpower and Fame

Chant of Willpower and Fame, the second episode in The Sickness Stars’ trilogy of double singles, explores into themes of industrial superiority, ambition, and political narcissism using a dark and cruel musical atmosphere. The song begins with a guitar-driven beginning before slowly changing to a sharper, more brutal sound, embracing an underground production approach that perfectly suits its dark subject matter. Musically, the band combines industrial rock, gothic rock, and glam-infused punk to create a strong combination reminiscent of Marilyn Manson’s early work and London After Midnight’s dark atmosphere. The intentionally low-fi production adds character rather than limitations, supporting the song’s raw tempo and “underworld” personality. The vocals sometimes remind Steve Sylvester’s theatrical approach while also recalling the gothic tone of Christian Death, resulting in a performance that is both scary and interesting. Despite relying on various historical influences, Chant of Willpower and Fame has its own distinct personality. It smoothly moves between industrial aggressiveness, gothic sorrow, and punk attitude, resulting in a rough but unique listening experience. Fans of the early-2000s Los Angeles gothic and industrial scene will immediately recognise the mood captured here, while newbies will find a track full of atmosphere, attitude, and nostalgic dark-rock flame.
