June Turns Black – Praey
June Turns Black, which formed in Bucharest in 2023, presents an atmospheric and spiritually engaging experience with “Praey.” According to the band, the song looks at the idea of addiction becoming a type of religion, when a person stops resisting their desires and instead upgrades them to a sacred status. The music starts with atmospheric synths and an intriguing female/male voice duet that creates a dreamy atmosphere. As the song moves forward, the synth sounds get more lush and luxurious, recalling Depeche Mode’s sophisticated electronic landscapes while also incorporating modern electronica elements. The multi-layered vocal arrangements offer dimension and complexity, allowing the feelings of the lyrics to be revealed over time. The electric guitar arrives around the 1:18 mark, adding excitement and energy to the song.
