Tiborian – The Widening
According to the artist, the song is “a respectful artistic tribute to Albert Hofmann, whom I was lucky enough to meet once when I was younger.” Tiborian creates a dreamy and nostalgic mood with reverbed guitar work inspired by Pink Floyd, and mature narrative vocals typical of Sivert Høyem. The music moves naturally and without pressure, allowing the melodic guitar notes to slowly enter deep into the listener’s mind. The layered sounds become even more intense with headphones, changing the listening experience into a surreal, almost cinematic adventure. The production achieves a perfect mix between warmth and openness, allowing every component to move freely while keeping the track’s hypnotic atmosphere. The work is obviously influenced by Madrugada and David Gilmour, especially his solo-era. However, the song never feels unoriginal since Tiborian transforms these origins via a modern sonic lens full of atmosphere and inner realism. A very good moment occurs about 3:50, when saxophone sounds enter the arrangement, adding another dramatic element to the music. This section excellently highlights how retro romance can mix with modern production aesthetics, resulting in a sound that is nostalgic and contemporary. “The Widening” is eventually successful as a very deeply moving and engaging psychedelic rock song.
