Tomasoso – Last Summer in Freedom

“Last Summer in Freedom” begins with strong, funk-driven percussion overlaid with post-punk experimental sounds. The atmosphere is intense from the beginning, somewhat brutal, and intentionally disturbing.Around 0:40, the vocal appears, not in a traditional melodic style, but in a raw, storytelling style characteristic of No Wave pioneers such as The Fall. The technique abandons traditional singing in favour of spoken passion, emphasising the track’s aggressive nature. As the song develops, the rhythm section becomes heavier and more groove-driven.The production has an intentional roughness to it that improves rather than simplifies the anti-war message. “Last Summer in Freedom” is fundamentally an antiwar declaration. The emphasis here is on the message’s clarity and intensity rather than its musical specialisation. The raw vocal performance, rough layers, and continuous beat all serve the same purpose: to highlight the political weight of the words. It’s a track in which passion takes the lead, and the music follows with uncompromising force.
