lowsunday – Soft Capture
“Soft Capture” is from lowsunday’s Ghost Machine White EP and was written and recorded by Shane Sahene (vocals, guitar, synth, bass, drums) and Bobby Spell (bass, guitar, and drums). The music begins with distinct bass lines and melodic guitars that take inspiration from both shoegaze and darkwave, finding an unpredictable balance between mood and structure. The production’s DIY approach feels mechanical and somewhat futuristic, which works well with the distant, processed vocals. Together, they create an experience of mental isolation, making the music feel distant on first listen but pleasantly warm when heard through headphones. The storytelling vocal style sometimes reminds Mark E. Smith of The Fall, providing a sharp, observational aspect to the typically hazy musical atmosphere. Musically, the dreamy and psychedelic sounds recall Tame Impala or even The Cure, but the single finally speaks on its own. This style continues to the music video, that includes psychedelic themes such as hazy urban scenery, dark surroundings, and a strong blue colour palette, emphasising the song’s lonely and surreal mood.
