Roeland Celis – Seismic shift
The music opens with a slow fade-in of guitar and drums before moving into progressive metal phrases that recall the technical skill of bands like Dream Theater, Cynic, and, on occasion, Watchtower. From the beginning, the work creates an interesting and complex musical experience. The instrumental piece reads like a book, with each section flowing easily into the next, creating a work that is cohesive, melodic, and highly technical. The arrangement combines elements of free jazz and djent-inspired guitar lines, which add complexity and keep the listener fascinated. A short stop at 2:50 introduces jazzy piano textures which act as a short bridge into the track’s second half, which is equally as experimental and challenging, emphasising the song’s progressive ambition and exploratory spirit.
