Zircon Skyeband – I Saw The Light

The song begins with piano and a rhythm-and-blues vibe, which brings to mind classic US nostalgia. The beginning has an atmosphere that is familiar and friendly, providing a calm tone before the song completely gets underway. It’s the kind of introduction that draws the listener in without making an overwhelming claim. As the female vocals enter the mix, the song takes on an exotica-inspired, easy-listening style, giving it an obvious radio-friendly effect. The production is modern, with an important focus on vocal pop melodies while maintaining the arrangement’s retro feel. This balance produces a sound that, at first glance, looks like country pop, despite significantly deeper and broader musical influences. While the initial listen may appear easy, multiple listens show the complexity of the arrangement. There’s a strong appreciation for Carlos Santana and Latin rock, as well as a great love for historic US blues traditions. Particularly, the guitar work is not the focus of the music, instead allowing space for the ethereal vocals and acting more as a backing accompaniment than a driving force. Individual aspects slowly surface with each listen, rewarding attentive listening and emphasising the band’s careful and extensive songwriting style.
