Push Puppets – Probably

“Probably” by Push Puppets is a gentle and sincere song that combines melodic rock with dream pop beauty. The song begins with soft piano notes and smooth guitar sounds, recalling the melodic connection with musicians such as Crowded House and Nick Lowe. The arrangement has a “pleasing” melancholy, but its constant bassline adds sophistication and warmth, grounding the feeling and slowly pushing the song onward like a light at the end of the tunnel. At 1:56, the introduction of strings takes the music into cinematic space, giving it an aura of a film score, which is moving, soulful, and broad. This symphonic change enhances the track’s dreamlike aspect, lifting it from an essential ballad to something more expansive and classic. The lyrics enhance the song’s impact by bringing up recollections of short but passionate times with someone who has passed away. The lyrics “Taking all our dreams and pour em into one / Not believing that it can’t be done again” and “Maybe if all the stars align… I’m still in love with you” express both sadness and the everlasting hope of love beyond loss. According to the band, “Probably” is a celebration of time spent with a loved one, and it beautifully combines sadness with admiration, desire with light. Push Puppets manage in developing a song that is particular, suitable to bring comfort to anyone who has loved and lost. “Probably” remains like a beloved memory: soft, bittersweet, and shining.
