John Filippo – Stay Young

Stay Young by John Filippo begins with a warm, bluesy guitar that grabs the listener’s attention with its calm tempo. As the vocals enter the mix, the track  converts into a folk-rock style, combining traditional music with a new, modern touch. Filippo’s vocal approach has a fundamental appeal; his phrasing is direct, and feels modern. It’s an easy nevertheless effective method that matches the lyrical topic of maintaining youth and spirit as time passes. The percussion helps significantly to the track’s vibe. Instead of dominating the arrangement, it introduces a funky, natural rhythm that complements the folk background, giving the song a dynamic heartbeat. Stay Young successfully bridges the gap between the old and the contemporary, drawing on blues and folk traditions but sounding completely modern.
