We Hold The Truth – Océan
Océan’s We Hold The Truth is an angry and dramatic journey into the heart of Black Metal, produced with both respect for tradition and an understated sense of progression. The tune is directly blasting into an eruption of fast drumming and blazing guitar riffs which recall the raw anger of early 1990s Black Metal. It’s an all-out assault, chaotic, persistent, and darkly dramatic. Vocally, the track pays tribute to the genre’s roots while slightly enhancing them. The screams are strong but clearer than the genre’s original wave of ultra-low-fi growls, adding clarity without abandoning authenticity. At 2:04, the rage fades into an atmospheric interlude, which is still dark but more ambient. The short break adds tension and depth until the pandemonium returns with new energy, supported by a powerful guitar solo that cuts through the noise with accuracy. The song’s true range is revealed during the final change at 3:54. The tempo slows, and French-language vocals show up, adding a narrative, even religious atmosphere. The instrumentation becomes ritualistic, creating a melancholic, hypnotic spell that drives the track to its conclusion. It’s an abrupt reverse to the aggression of the early sections, and it works, the music ends with spooky reflection rather than violence.
