Before the concert began, a long line stretched around the block, a sign of the anticipation and enthusiasm of the fans. Unfortunately, the doors opened a bit late, but this delay only seemed to heighten the excitement. The show was sold out, and the queue consisted mainly of teenagers and metalheads aged 20 to 30, which bodes well for the future of metal music. Notably, there were parents attending with their kids, showcasing the enduring appeal of bands like Stratovarius, which hails from the mid-late 1980s era. The presence of tourists in the crowd also signaled the potential for music tourism in Greece.
The long queue even attracted the attention of passersby, including a motorcyclist who stopped and inquired about the event. When informed that it was a concert by “Stratovarius,” he asked, “Stratovarius? Is he a DJ?” The crowd burst into laughter, and the motorcyclist quickly made his exit. This moment highlighted the unexpected popularity of metal music in Athens.
Induction: Rising Power Metal Stars
The evening’s musical journey commenced with Induction, a band that played melodic power metal influenced by bands like Stratovarius and Queensrÿche. Despite their promising performance, the sound quality left something to be desired, especially concerning the drums. Nevertheless, the audience was quick to recognize their potential, and they undoubtedly have a bright future ahead.

Next up was Sonata Arctica, who immediately showcased why they are a formidable force in the world of power metal. Their setlist was a dynamic blend of ballads and high-speed anthems that transported the audience into a power metal dream. Highlights of their performance included “Replica,” with the entire audience singing along, “First In Line,” a new song that resonated with fans, and “Tallulah,” a song with a humorous backstory shared by the singer.
