West Wickhams – Hot Jump (Track Review)
Jon Othello and Elle Flores, a psyschedelic Garage Noir Deux duo from Tresco on the Isles of Scilly, make up the West Wickhams. The Bromley Contingent’s supposed rival gang, the West Wickhams, are known for their punk rock aesthetic. Mary Shelley, Dark Punk, Gothic Novels, Halloween, Film Noir, Edgar Allan Poe, and Andy Warhol are among the cultural icons that have influenced them. “Hot Jump” is a dreamy Post-Punk song with a dark atmosphere boosted by the raw guitar parts and the heavy usage of 1980s-inspired synths. The mix of the mysterious synths and the bass riffs create such a cool vibe for your listening pleasure. The vocals adopt a lost/fuzzy pattern to “visualise” the lyrics and reflect the attitude of the band, which distances itself from the mainstream and catchy choruses, ending up in a storytelling singing style. Overall, I believe that if you like the dark sounds of the 1980s from the UK scene, you will enjoy this one!
