The Quarks – Nice While It Lasted (Track Review)
This track includes a variety of musical influences, from the unorthodox guitar playing of Robert Fripp (King Crimson) to the Jazzy/Prog atmosphere of Gong and the psycho Garage madness of The Cramps. The orchestration is complex and sometimes unfocused; however, this is the competitive advantage of the band: it creates a chaos that becomes attractive to the listener due to its strange time signatures and evolving change of musical moods. Experimentation and Avant-garde are the basic elements that drive the band on this mysterious musical journey, which lasts for 4 minutes and 26 seconds, but after its completion you just want to press the “Repeat” button to listen again and understand the music and culture of this strange band. The production of the song is OK, with a lot of influences from the 1970s and 1990s on the audio mix, which was probably done on purpose since these decades defined the identity of minimalistic music. If you really care about Experimental music, then it’s worth checking out this song and tuning into the creative chaos of the band.
