Formed out of the fertile ground of psychedelic rock collective Ozric Tentacles, Eat Static is the brainchild of drummer Merv Pepler and keyboardist Joie Hinton. Sensing a seismic shift in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s British music scene, these two intrepid spirits began exploring the electronic soundscapes of early rave and DJ culture with the idea of bringing their own rock and psychedelic influences to bear on the new sounds. The result was a truly groundbreaking project that persisted through 3 decades with multiple full-length albums as well as numerous EPs and singles, which helped build the group a solid reputation and sizable fanbase around the globe.

Now, two massive CD box sets are bringing a substantial chunk of Eat Static’s vast and incredible catalog back to planet Earth as both a celebration of their legacy as well as an opportunity for those who missed the ship the first time to jump onboard. Ecstatic Collection 1 features over 50 tracks of studio recordings, live tracks, alternate versions and more, covering some of the group’s earliest singles through to their 1992 debut album and beyond. The music comes packaged in 6 discs with each disc in its own wallet that recreates the original artwork.

Chapter 2 ups the ante with a mind-blowing 7 discs, picking up just after the turn of the century and covering several of the band’s most popular studio albums including 2008’s Back To Earth, which features a special guest appearance of Gong guitarist Steve Hillage, and 2015’s Dead Planet, which features guest Robert Smith of The Cure, plus loads of live tracks and rarities.
