L.A.’s Famed THE SMITHS/MORRISSEY Tribute Band SWEET AND TENDER HOOLIGANS Release New EP!

For nearly 3 decades, there has been one and only one tribute band that really matters. A band so sincere and immensely skilled that they’ve earned recognition from the famously irascible singer they pay tribute to. That band is the L.A.-based Sweet And Tender Hooligans, led by superstar Mexican-American vocalist Jose Maldonado, and the tributed singer is, of course, British rock icon Morrissey, who once stepped on stage and dryly declared “Hello, we are the Sweet And Tender Hooligans and I’m Jose.”
Morrissey would be lucky indeed to have the backing band that assembles behind Maldonado, which includes bassist Joe Escalante of punk rock icons The Vandals, guitarist David Collett, drummer Danny Garcia and rhythm guitarist Art Barrios, who collectively kick out incredibly reverent, note-perfect Spanish-language versions of Smiths and Morrissey classics. Although primarily known for their celebrated live performances, playing to sold out crowds on both sides of the Pond, these Hooligans have today released a superb, studio recorded EP, entitled Querido Esteban (or “Dear Steven”), on all digital platforms.
As the band declares, “The six Smiths/Morrissey songs we chose for Querido Esteban are specially selected fan-favorites rather than the obvious smash hits. These songs hold a special place in our hearts, and everyone has a different emotion, memory, moment in time or a person that they attach to each one of them.”
Speaking on a more personal note, Maldonado shares that when he showed the Spanish translation of Morrissey’s lyrics to his Spanish-speaking, Mexico-born parents, “they said they finally understood why these songs were so meaningful to me. When I showed my dad ‘Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me,’ he said ‘son, just the title alone is so powerful.’”
