Tarja Live In Athens

Tarja is very famous in Greece and also her previous band Nightwish, so it wasn’t a surprise for me to find the Gagarin Club full half full 2 hours before her show. Usually most of the people choose to enter the live hall a few minutes before the headliner’s show begins, but now the place  was half packed.

Furnaze, the first support band was playing some kind of modern USA metalcore and received from the audience with much enthusiasm. Energy and good sound were the advantages of the band. Kings Of Majesty, was the second support band. They come from Finland and the sound is similar to melodic power bands such as Sonata Arctica. They weren’t bad at all but the sound wasn’t so fair with them, you could hardly hear the voice during the show.

 The line up of Tarja’s bands includes session musicians that have traveled all over the world with bands such as Rage, Apocalyptica, Sieges Even, etc. The lights went out and the audience starts screaming the lady’s name: T-AR-J-A , it was a fantastic atmosphere. It was a kind of Beatlemania over there…I could hardly believe what was happening!  Gagarin Club was already packed and they really wanted toy hear, touch and feel Tarja.  When she went on the stage, people went crazy…

She was wearing an impressive dress that places her on the fan’s mind as the opera lady , the beauty, that mixed with the rockin’ guys, the beast. The antithesis of beauty and the beast was the attraction for everyone during the 1,5 hour that she was on stage. The operatic vocal along with the technical heavy rock as a background was something amazing… The melody of her voice travels you far away, to the deepest  beauties of the nature. It was obvious that Tarja couldn’t believe the reactions of the audience, it was an unexpected fact for her. Her enthusiasm was real , you could see her eyes and believe it. During all the show, she was changing clothes to fit with the theme of the song and was really energetic on stage by dancing, teasing the other members of the band, etc. The highlights of this larger than life concert were : “I Walk Alone”, “Over The Hills And Far Away” and of course “Poison”. Everyone that came this night , keeps the memories of this concert in his /her heart..
