Nektar Live In Athens
Nektar has always been a cult band for the fans of progressive rock in Greece and worldwide. The professional light show along with the rock n roll attitude, are the main advantages of the band. The show in Greece it was supposed to be in a smaller scale, no special light show, but everybody here was happy to attend the band on a tour that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the band’s foundation.
On Friday the 4th, I went at Rodeo Club to attend the band at the first of the 2 dates in Athens. There were about 200 people in the live venue aged from late 20s to late 50s but all with the same passion for progressive rock music. The stage was very close to the audience, so the musicians were only one breath away from them.
When Nektar hit the stage, the sound of applauses turned on the enthusiasm inside the band’s mind and the old rock n roll party was already up… Despite of their age (50 – 60 plus years old) they have a well structured view of the prog. sound and they are very energetic on the stage. Especially the keyboard player was a great talent and the acoustics in the venue was also good. Both audience and band became satisfied with the music result ! The old classics such as “Remember The Future”, “Recycled” were the highlights of the show which lasted for a little less than 2 hours including the encore.
It’s very positive to see bands that play music for more than 40 years, having totally professional attitude and caring so much about both their art and fans too. It’s not only for the old times shake, it’s just a political action of proving that the middle age rocker belongs to a music society that has no age limits and is into progression and improvisation of the art.
