DOL AMMAD

1.First of all, tell us the history of “Dol Ammad”

Dol Ammad as a concept was spinning in my head throughout the end of the nineties and it became a reality with a demo-teaser back in 2001 . It really took off , though, with the newest demo CD in 2002 with the inclusion of the “Europa” Choir in the vocal department .

2.Tell us some details for the demo cd “Electronica-art-metal”

I believe that “Electronica-Art-Metal” defines the innovative sound of Dol Ammad and it presents us to the metal and non-metal audience . It is a result of many months of work and we are very proud of it !

3.Is there any feedback from the audience about the demo till now ?

There was positive feedback to the Dol Ammad sound from the first day that the demo was released ! Many people contacted us from hardcore black metal fans to more straightforward metal-heads and to non-metal fans of electronic-new age sounds. It was also pleasing that Dol Ammad instantly caught the media attention together with the interest of many record labels .

4.Which is the procedure when you write the songs?

Most of the times I play with sound . I try to create interesting and multidimensional sounds that would then lead me into melodies and songs . I like electronic , synthesized sounds with the ability to evolve throughout a song . Sometimes though I can also start from rhythm parts , as I am also a drummer , that would inspire me to build a Dol Ammad song ! I try to portray images and feelings through our songs and that is why the music is so descriptive , hence the “art” in our self-crafted music label!.

5.Have you already played any gig?

No, Dol Ammad is hardly a live band as it would require lots of money to bring all the elements, especially the choir , on stage . Of course nothing is impossible but for now we are focused in signing a record deal so that the Dol Ammad album would reach as many people in the world as possible ! Should it be successful maybe we can then start thinking of live shows !

6.Your influences from the metal scene?

I am inspired from many things in the metal world. From the more “extreme” like Bal Sagoth , Cradle Of Filth , Dimmu Borgir , Arcturus , Amorphis , Emperor , Therion to the more “straightforward” metal of Helloween , Rage , Ayreon , Symphony X , Angra and more . I like also some bands like Rammstein, Disturbed, Fear Factory and more.

7.Tell me your opinion about the metal scene in Greece

Although it faces some fierce competition from abroad, I believe that the Greek underground scene has many well hidden surprises waiting to be discovered! Concerning the known Greek metal acts, bands like Horizon’s End , Septic Flesh , Rotting Christ and many more work very hard and with releases full of talent make us all proud in the global metal scene !

8.Tell me you favourite album and your favourite band

I simply can’t pick one ! My all time favourite bands in metal are Bal Sagoth , Ayreon and Rage . Concerning my favourite albums from these bands I’ll pick “The Power Cosmic” , “The Electric Castle” and “The Missing Link” respectively . As far as the electronica scene is concerned my all time favourite musician is Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis . I also admire Orbital from the more electronic-dance scene . My favourite albums from the above would be “Revolutions” from Jarre , “Oceanic” from Vangelis and “The Middle Of Nowhere” from Orbital .

9.What are your plans in the future for “Dol Ammad”?

Our more immediate plans are to agree for a record deal as soon as possible and publish the Dol Ammad debut . We also have some great ideas for a second album ! Currently we are also looking for some Computer Animators 3D Artists to create some visuals for the Dol Ammad experience ! My more distant plans would be to be able to write music for as long as I live ! I have many dreams in the Dol Ammad world and I hope that one day I will be able to make them come true!

10.Is metal a way of your life?

In my life metal means the search of knowledge and creation . The denial of constructed and guided , ready-made thoughts, ideas and music that aim in a few people’s profit which would guide us in empty lives of mental slavery . I believe in the power of imagination and fantasy . In that sense metal is a way of my life !

11.Have you any plans for a full length cd?

Of course ! The first full ready CD is almost ready and it will be out as soon as we settle with a record label ! I believe that this is going to happen very soon!

12.I found you through internet, do you think that the net can replace the old underground days?

Nothing beats the word of mouth and the tape/CD trading ! However the internet is a powerful tool that enhances the communication and promotion of music and in that way it is truly godsend !
