Matt Waco – Who Do You Run To

“Who Do You Run To” is a slow, relaxed song that brings together folk, violin and modern jazz-rock to create an interesting combination. One of the details that really caught my attention was the saxophone, which added a warm 1980s touch to the arrangement, giving the song a slightly nostalgic character. Everything unfolds naturally without hurrying, creating an atmosphere of easy listening that still has some darker aspects. Matt Waco’s storytelling vocal style fits this setting perfectly. His voice brings a neo-romantic quality to the song, and the fusion of jazz, folk and atmospheric rock creates an enigmatic mood. There are moments in the saxophone work that remind me of Elton Dean’s expressive style, particularly the way the instrument becomes part of the storytelling, rather than filling the arrangement. The result is music that manages to feel both comfortable and mysterious. There is something almost therapeutic about the way the song develops, as if Matt is reaching out to the listener and offering a helping hand: ‘Take my hand, don’t be afraid.’ The music carries that same message, inviting you into its world with gentle rhythms, expressive saxophone and a beautifully atmospheric arrangement.
