Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet – Gitme
“Gitme” begins with acoustic kindness, bringing the listener into an atmosphere that is cinematic. The slow strumming of strings creates a peaceful folk beginning, which is augmented by slow percussion sounds that add an easygoing, jazzy tempo to the composition. As the clarinet enters the mix, the mood turns to one of sweet sorrow. Its emotional sound affects the tune with nostalgic experience, turning it into an interesting instrumental story. The marriage between jazz flow and folk orchestration is obvious, the work runs smoothly, with orchestration that is elegant. Although being entirely instrumental, “Gitme” communicates “loudly.” It provides an enjoyable but intellectually powerful trip, accompanied by rich orchestration and an interesting sound mix.
