US album sales fell by 12.7% in 2010 despite a 13.0% rise in digital albums, painting a gloomy picture of the world’s biggest music market.

Total album sales across physical and digital fell to 326.2m units from 373.9m, as sales of CDs dropped for the fourth consecutive year, according to Nielsen / Billboard numbers.

Japan’s Karn loses battle with cancer PDF Print E-mail

Karn died yesterday at his Chelsea house and is survived by his wife Kyoko and his son Metis.

Born Andonis Michaelides into a Greek Cypriot family in 1958, Karn was a founder member of the mid seventies band Japan along with David Sylvian, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri.

Jimi Jamison (ex SURVIVOR singer) and Bobby Kimball (ex TOTO lead singer) are joining forces together in a duet album produced by Mat Sinner from the German Heavy Metal band Primal Fear. Jimi and Bobby are currently putting their finishing touches on the recording of the lead vocals in Los Angeles, while the musical tracks have been recorded in Germany.

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER have officially entered the studio to begin work on their first album without drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy. The band's guitarist, John Petrucci, writes on his Twitter profile, "First day in studio [and] the dawn of a new era for DREAM THEATER. Can't wait to get the music flowing."
