The Awakening – Through The Veil

The Awakening’s “Through The Veil” is an interactive gothic rock song that combines deepest feelings with dark atmosphere, proving the band’s dynamic contrast. From the beginning, the melody places the listener in a dark and mystical cosmos, with vocals inspired by Peter Murphy: mature, and breathtakingly expressive; “flying” over layers of goth and dreamy synths. At 0:39, the music becomes stronger, creating an electric energy that contrasts perfectly with the melancholic intro. At 1:05, the tune slows down to offer a more atmospheric section. This change offers dramatic dynamics, leading to an emotional rollercoaster that keeps the listener focused and increases the track’s personal impact. The production is particularly interesting, Through The Veil features a clear, strong mix with mastering that emphasizes the music’s dark atmosphere. Each element, from the reverbed guitars to the sorrowful synths, is adjusted to create a soundscape that seems unique. The song’s lyrics are a beautiful connection of past and present: “Can’t you feel me holding on / For another chance / To breathe you in again / Through the veil.” The chorus “So close your eyes / I’ve been holding on…” communicates devotion, as if the storyteller is reaching out across time or death itself. By 3:34, the song is softly slowing down, breaking down into a misty, nostalgic outro that is nostalgic and sad.
