The Yets – Broken Arrow

The Yets, a duo made up of guitarist-producer Craig Anderson Snook and vocalist Robin Wilson, offer an emotional audio getaway with their song “Broken Arrow.” The song explores explores concepts of surrender, change, and inner peace, using striking arrow images to represent tension, battle and final relief. Hemlock and phlox, which represent death and harmony, emphasize the song’s fundamental duality of conflict and resolution. The song begins with a slow, mysterious rock atmosphere, setting a cinematic and atmospheric mood. The drums gradually begin at 0:45, contributing to the atmosphere. Wilson’s vocals have a melancholic attraction that recalls the ethereal style of the 1970s, with elements of Jefferson Airplane, or the darker mystery of the 1980s, such as Siouxsie Sioux. Her voice has an almost gothic feeling to it, floating over multiple layers of reverbed electric guitars that contribute to the song’s enigmatic, bittersweet spirit. The combination of atmospheric guitars and ambient production recalls the influence of the Cocteau Twins’ soundscapes, combining electricity with an exotic dreaminess. The outcome is a composition that creates a mix between nostalgia and contemporary times, attracting fans of gothic rock, dream pop, and new wave music.
