Dark Aries Project – Agon’s Curse

“Agon’s Curse,” the latest release from the one-man dystopian horror post-metal band Dark Aries Project, features a savage soundtrack that challenges limits of tension and atmosphere. The song marks a new chapter in the band’s creative tale, with the dark demon Agon taking center stage as an ever-present presence harassing Ilinx, the project’s enigmatic creator. Drawing heavily on Ministry’s industrial brutality, the track’s pounding drum beat dominates the mix. The balance of industrial violence and post-metal delicate touch is particularly remarkable. The guitar work includes post-hardcore riffs that are dynamic, adding catchy moments throughout the creative chaos. The complex arrangement is reminding of Nine Inch Nails, nevertheless “Agon’s Curse” maintains its own character thanks to its  raw and violent style. The arrangement centers on the standard trio of bass, guitar, and drums, creating a dark and unpleasant atmosphere that complements the track’s dystopian basis. Although the drum sound is purposely loud and raw, it could benefit from compression to balance the mix. However, this rawness may be intentional, corresponding to the project’s underground attitude and terrifying subjects. As an instrumental composition, “Agon’s Curse” succeeds in using sound to tell stories. It’s heavy, energetic, and ruthless. Despite its rough edges, it provides an intriguing listening experience for fans of industrial and post-metal who appreciate a bit of terror in their music.
