Stefanos Kozanis – Andromeda
“Andromeda” is a beautiful work that combines jazz, classical, and Greek traditional elements, performed by an outstanding cast of Athens-based musicians. The tune begins with jazzy sophisticated percussion, and is promptly followed by a warm double bass line that provides character and depth. As the violin enters the mix, Stefanos Kozanis’ piano creates the mood for an attractive audio trip. Katerina Konstantinou’s vocals are strong and dramatic, integrating sadness and emotion with a particular Greek character. Her performance is dramatic and complex, contributing to the track’s emotional effect. The violin takes the lead, flowing in and out to guide the listener through different emotions, while the piano reduces the level of intensity, offering moments of relaxation as the vocals increase suspense. The piano solo from 2:10 to 2:28 is a highlight of the song, providing a playful jazz and slightly prog rock edge and showing Kozanis’ flexibility and talent. As the song develops, the vocals and violin return, participating in a vibrant “dialogue” that allows the piano to join in and bring the piece to its peaceful conclusion. “Andromeda” is a beautiful work which marries both contemporary and traditional genres, making a deep impression with its sentimental weight and sophisticated arrangement.
