Denacus’ song “dRIP” is a moving  tune that reflects the artist’s honest feelings following a very personal loss. Denacus, born Dean Lyndon Mibus, dedicates this song to a close friend who went away, integrating it with honesty and sadness that represents his loss. Musically, “dRIP” combines hip-hop and alternative rock elements, with rough vocal lines and raw, heavy rock instrumentals. Initially, Denacus’ vocal style reveals the hip-hop influence, providing the music a spoken, philosophical character. However, about 1:21, the tone changes as the music rises, providing a strong wall of sound with distorted chords similar of Sepultura’s heavy approach from the 1990s. These darker elements enhance the song’s emotional significance, especially the distorted, almost ghostly vocal layers that continue with a strong, cathartic violence. What makes “dRIP” so interesting is its failure to fit precisely into a single genre, instead living in a gap between heavy rock and hip-hop that seems organic and appropriate for the subject. Denacus’ voice maintains a harsh edge throughout, ignoring clean hip-hop norms in favor of something closer to the rawness of hard rock.
