Conveniens – Rolling

Conveniens’ “Rolling” is a track that challenges musical rules, combining several genres into an exciting sound. The strong percussion establishes an energetic basis from the first beat, while the jazzy piano improvises freely over it. As the saxophone softly fades into the background, the tune develops a romantic and even cinematic personality, which contrasts well with the drumming section’s aggressive beat. The percussion, with its jazzy vibe, remains a strong force throughout, providing the composition an air of movement and surprise. As the track develops, the use of synthesizers brings a prog rock influence, offering an additional level of atmospheric depth and complexity. This fusion of jazz improvisation and progressive elements transforms “Rolling” from a free-form jazz melody to a more expansive, almost peaceful New Age soundtrack. The song’s perfect movement between free jazz, prog, and New Age shows David Sterling Smith’s technical brightness as well as John Maz’s artistic vision. “Rolling” is more than simply a great tune; it’s a complicated and highly exciting work that requires repeated listening to fully understand all of its components and changes.
