PIG – Sinsation (Remastered)
Raymond Watts, popularly known as PIG, is a well-known name in the industrial music industry, and Sinsation is among his most notable recordings. Originally released on Trent Reznor’s Nothing Records, this remastered edition from Metropolis Records adds fresh clarity and energy to Watts’ dark, dystopian universe. Sinsation, with known tunes like “Painiac,” “Hamstrung On The Highway,” and “Hot Hole,” is as aggressive and creative as ever. The album’s first track, “Serial Killer Thriller,” begins with melancholic, dramatic strings reminding of a film score. By 0:42, the track has devolved into a violent industrial assault, driven by heavy samples and distorted guitars. Watts’ growling, larger-than-life vocals recall a distorted version of Alice Cooper, providing a dramatic, horror-tinged performance that sets the tone for the rest of the album. “Hamstrung On The Highway” begins with dystopian speech samples before falling into a nightmare industrial sound similar of the early Ministry. The remaster gives this tune fresh life, with the enhanced production making the harsh, mechanical components and pounding bass even more powerful. “Golgotha” stands out as a short, spooky instrumental. The dreamy synth entrance and panning effects create a weird, even confusing experience, offering some melancholy relief between the harsher sounds. “The Sick” blends industrial rock with glam and garage rock, reflecting the raw intensity of bands like White Zombie and early Faster Pussycat. The raw guitars and Watts’ screaming vocal delivery combine to produce a surprisingly attractive track. “Paniac” begins with post-punk basslines and creepy samples before turning into a beautiful, danceable industrial track. The upgraded electronics provide a sharper, more haunting edge, making it feel like a distorted disco anthem. “Shell” eliminates the guitars, focusing on strong drumming, distorted samples, and a narrative vocal performance. This music takes the listener to a horror setting, based on the repetitive pulse of industrial percussion and the presence of dark synthesizers. “Analgesia” is where the remaster truly shines, with extravagant drumming and futuristic synthesizers that get new brightness. The melancholic, apocalyptic mood is enhanced by mysterious synthesizers, resulting in a wide and cinematic soundtrack that seems futuristic and isolated. “Volcano” has a distorted hard rock edge, combining loud guitars, aggressive percussion, and ambient synthesizers. The end result is a music that seems like a great blend of industrial force and electronic curiosity, with occasional thrash-like guitar riffs providing strength to the industrial backbone. “Hot Hole” has loud, hammering percussion and aggressive guitars which touch on thrash metal at moments, nevertheless blend perfectly with the industrial sound. This track is a standout because to its use of voice samples, harsh vocals, and razor-sharp production, showing Watts’ ability to merge metal and industrial into a chaotic sound. The album concludes with “Transceration,” an ambient, cinematic work characterized by sad synthesizers and repetitive electronic elements. This instrumental tune acts as a peaceful, corresponding end to the album’s aggressive trip, leaving listeners nervous. The remastered edition of Sinsation improves an already outstanding album, increasing its edge while maintaining the gritty, dark mood that makes it unforgettable. Sinsation (Remastered) combines industrial noise, aggressive rock elements, and touching cinematic moments to remind us why Raymond Watts and PIG remain respected as industrial genre pioneers.
