Monotronic – Sun Song
The band Monotronic’s “Sun Song” is an emotional track that shows how well they can combine diverse musical genres and emotions. Emerging from the vibrant NYC music scene in 2016, Monotronic, led by guitarist and producer Ramsey Elkholy, has built a reputation as an enigmatic collective. A mindful tone is established early in the song by the gradual interplay of bass and melodic guitar. The vocals come in next, with a depth of passion reminiscent of shoegaze vocalists as the drums kick in. The strange and reflective beginning section takes the listener in a sorrowful soundtrack. The song “Sun Song” changes radically at the 56-second mark. The song gains energy and optimism as the tone changes to one filled with happiness. The joyful energy that this transformation brings is pleasant and makes a lovely contrast to the previous mood of melancholy. However, the song doesn’t linger in this happy space for long. By 1:23, the music takes another turn, adopting a darker, more introspective mood. The song doesn’t stay in this joyful area for too long, though. At 1:23, the song changes again, becoming moodier and more reflective. This change is driven by the bass and percussion, which remind me of The Cure’s dark vibe. This shift provides the song another dimension of complexity and produces a dynamic listening experience that alternates between joy and sorrow and light and dark. “Sun Song” is a wonderful example of how Monotronic mixes these contrasting tones. The band’s diversity is shown by numerous shifts between the brighter and darker sections, which keep the listener engaged. It’s a journey through contrasting moods, all held together by the band’s cohesive vision and intricate musicianship.
