Danish Electro-Industrial Masters LEÆTHER STRIP Throw A Gender Twist On An ‘80s New Wave Classic, Preview The Seventh And Hardest Hitting Volume Of The Popular ÆPPRECIATION Series!

Internationally acclaimed dark electronic powerhouse group Leæther Strip are back with a bang, unveiling a unique twist, both musically and lyrically, on an ‘80s underground dance classic with their latest single “Nowhere Boy.” Originally released in 1980 as “Nowhere Girl” by British post-punk band B-Movie, the song has become a touchstone for dark wave acts to this day who have found musical inspiration in the song’s dark atmospheres as well as its lyrical themes of alienation. Leæther Strip’s version trades the original’s bright, brittle keyboards for a more visceral, grittier sound that reflects the song’s importance to the evolution of electronic music across the decades.

Another notable feature of the new version is, of course, the gender swap of the song’s subject. The move serves as a poignant statement of identity and expression from Leæther Strip mastermind Claus Larsen, one of the few openly homosexual figures in the often hetero male-dominated realm of industrial and dark wave music. Even today, Larsen continues to challenge stereotypes and break down barriers, paving the way for inclusivity and acceptance.

“Nowhere Boy” is the first single from Leæther Strip’s forthcoming studio album, Æppreciation VII, the newest and hardest hitting volume of Larsen’s acclaimed cover song series. This volume boasts covers of iconic tracks from the likes of Eurythmics, M, David Bowie, PJ Harvey, and even a daring twist on Tennessee Ernie Ford’s “16 Tons” that defies convention and demands attention. The album is set for release on all formats May 31!
