Frenchy and the Punk – Hypnotized
Frenchy and the Punk’s “Hypnotized” is a thrilling tour through ethereal settings and haunting music that highlights the duo’s unique mix of musical inspirations and storytelling skill. Frenchy and the Punk are a dazzling audio collage that blends elements of folk, indie, and goth. The band is comprised of Scott Helland’s powerful guitar work and Samantha Stephenson’s impressive vocals. The song “Hypnotized” began as a result of a coincidental encounter in 2017 when Scott Helland was staying at a historic hotel in Atlantic City and came up with the hypnotic guitar riff. Samantha Stephenson remembers the gloomy atmosphere of the abandoned hotel, which provided the basis for the deep meaning and creepy atmosphere of the song. The track unfolds with a mysterious guitar intro, recalling the cinematic aura of a Western film before transitioning into the hypnotic main melody. Scott Helland’s guitar work, influenced by his tenure with Deep Wound and Outpatients, adds layers of texture and intrigue to the composition. The song is driven by Samantha Stephenson’s ethereal and dramatic vocals, which are reminiscent of legendary performers like Siouxsie Sioux. Her attracting performance takes listeners to a world of hypnotic appeal and emotional resonance as she spins a tale of seduction and reflection. The music of “Hypnotized” carries a palpable gothic aura, infused with elements of indie folk that nod to bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Concrete Blonde, and Florence and the Machine.
