Reconsider your music strategy for USA
According to the following research (Edison Report), US teenagers prefer listening to music on AM/FM radio to music streaming services. The percentage of this target group that owns music is very low (4%). What do these numbers say about the future of the #musicindustry:
* Radio promotion is still a strong asset for artists.
* The physical format of music is dead; maybe it could be sold only as a merchandise item during touring.
* Podcasts are a rising market for artists.
Whether we agree or disagree, we cannot ignore the facts. However, I also have to say that the USA is not the only music market in the world. Geographical parts like the Middle East and Asia are the emerging markets for music. Universal Music and other companies recently started investing funds by acquiring places and labels belonging to this part of the world. Dubai is going to be the next Nashville, according to some executives.
Isn’t it time to reconsider your music strategy if you target the USA, or isn’t it time to look for new markets like Asia?
