CR and The Nones – The Long Game

CR and The Nones, a New Jersey-based collective, presents their melancholic and romantic indie rock track, “The Long Game,” as the lead single from their second album, “The Ghosts Are Coming Home.” Drawing inspiration from influential acts like Wilco, Fleetwood Mac, and Kurt Vile, the band crafts a sound that resonates with fans of introspective and nostalgic music. Embracing the aesthetics of 1970s soft rock, CR and The Nones deliver a captivating blend of heartfelt storytelling and rich musicality. “The Long Game” serves as a testament to the artistic growth and development of guitarist and songwriter Chris Gennone, affectionately known as CR. The lyrics were born during a tumultuous period—a breakup amidst Covid lockdowns and job loss—resulting in a sense of bleakness and the need for something to hold onto. It was during a drive on the turnpike, watching planes take off, that the words flowed effortlessly, capturing the raw emotions of the moment. The melody and chords soon followed, completing the composition. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in “The Long Game” are evident, with CR Gennone taking on multiple roles in the recording process. Collaborating with Josh Bartsch from Pynkie for the drum recordings and handling vocals, harmonies, guitars, and synths at his apartment, CR dedicated himself to refining the track. Despite an initial mix by Jeff Zeigler in Philly, the decision to re-track everything at Skylar’s studio in Wayne, with Tom Barrett on drums, further showcases the band’s commitment to delivering the best possible sound. Jim’s guitar parts were recorded by Andrew at his apartment, completing the comprehensive recording process. “The Long Game” envelops listeners in a bittersweet atmosphere, combining introspective lyrics with carefully layered instrumentation. The song gracefully unfolds, drawing the audience into a world of reflective contemplation. CR’s emotive vocals blend seamlessly with the evocative guitar melodies, while the synths and harmonies add depth and texture to the overall composition. Each element contributes to the overarching nostalgic vibe, paying homage to the timeless sounds of the 1970s. As the first taste of “The Ghosts Are Coming Home,” “The Long Game” sets a captivating tone for the upcoming album. The track embodies the essence of CR and The Nones’ musical evolution, demonstrating their ability to create deeply resonant indie rock that tugs at the heartstrings. The band’s commitment to honing their sound and capturing the raw essence of human emotions is evident throughout, making this song a compelling addition to their discography.
