A brand-new Boston-area band called Mad Painter has its roots in the 1970s melodic rock movement. It is composed of four individuals with incredibly diverse backgrounds. Alex Gitlin, the concept’s writer and inventor, is at the heart of Mad Painter. Bassist Kenne Highland, a true veteran of the Boston rock scene (ex-Gizmos, Hopelessly Obscure, Johnny & The Jumper Cables, Africa Corps), drummer Al Hendry (Bubba Loaf, Tokyo Tramps), and the newest addition, guitarist Al Naha (Thighscrapers), who plays with Kenne in Kenne Highland Airforce, provide him with expert support. In various configurations and formats, they have played in numerous locations in the Boston region. Mad Painter’s “Illusion” takes listeners on a nostalgic journey back to the golden era of classic rock, drawing influences from bands like Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash.
