Sleemo – Dog (Track Review)
Sleemo, a power trio from Norwich, made their debut in the middle of 2019. Since then, they have rapidly grown their fanbase thanks to their sonically loud live performances, heavy-set riffs, ripping leads, and out-of-the-box songwriting. They have progressed from playing in local small clubs to touring larger national venues with up-and-coming heavy hitters. With the track “Dog,” the band establishes the tone from the first note, or, to be more specific, from the first guitar riff. This is a Heavy Rock anthem mainly influenced by the Desert Rock scene of the USA and bands like Unida, Fu Manchu and others. The tone of the guitar’s sound and the orchestration make you fall in love at first (musical) sight! The structure of the song is strong, and the singer adds his own flavour to the final audio result by adding an angry (almost screamo) performance, boosting the whole listening experience. The production is also professional, with smart lo-fi elements in the sound mix and a clear “image” of all the participating musical instruments. I’m looking forward to the band’s live shows as well!
