Outside – Then It Hits You (Track Review)

In the 1990s in London, jazz was revived with electronic beats, thanks in large part to Matt Cooper. He currently serves as the musical director for jazz-funk pioneers Incognito and worked on the STR4TA project with the band’s Bluey and Gilles Peterson as a co-writer on four of the album’s songs. This single is inspired by an amagalma of music genres, from Jazz, Cinematic music to Drum n Bass and Trip Hop. The composer’s main weapon are the drums, which intelligently lead the track and transport the listener to different moods as the song changes structure and is transformed into an amagalma of musical variety. The female vocals add elements of romance and nostalgia to the final audio result, improving the listening experience. On the orchestration level, I am also satisfied due to the smart transition between music genres, although sometimes the cinematic music material seems to try to find a suitable place in the final mix. Maybe if cinematic music should be treated differently by being placed in a different place or accompanied by a suitable beat in the background to mix with the other material. Overall, I think the track is very professional and has a lot of potential for Jazz and Electronica listeners.
