We Are To Blame – Duality I
This is a Scandinavian Melodic Metal band that was formed when Johan Karlsson posted an ad for a pop vocalist for a metal project, and Alice Hartvig replied positively. Together with guitarist Urban Granbacke, they began to write the beginning of the band’s story. The album Duality I reflects the powerful musical energy of the band mixed with a Pop direction, especially in the vocal lines. The basic musical structure of the band consists of distorted guitars and aggressive grooves that define the musical weight of the band and their cultural identity. The message is clear for the fans: pure power and epic atmosphere in the style of famous cinematic movies. Although, the musical power is the driving force of the band, the female vocals act as a mediator to reduce the speed of music and enhance the melody and harmony of the album. Sometimes the vocals add a “Pop” element to the music or create a lovely antithesis between the beauty (melodic vocals) and the beast (guitars). This musical puzzle is also enriched with clean or gore male vocals so as to offer a different perspective to the music, although I think that the female vocals make the most outstanding difference. If you like bands such as Epica, Nightwish and Kamelot, then you will probably like this album. Enjoy!
