Joyce Tratnyek – The Cold Will Last Forever (Track Review)

A fuzzy, almost lo-fi, production successfully paves the way for a dark song with cinematic and futuristic melodic vocals that “paint” film noir images in your mind and make this song the perfect soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic fantasy, somewhere in New York. Through the song’s lyrics, the female singer expresses her inner feelings and a modern storytelling style: “the first snow falls on New York City/I lie awake in the soft white light/I breathe in all the world’s beauty/but it’s not enough to change my mind.” The romance is intertwined with an inner fear, which is technically expressed through the dystopian but successful lo-fi musical influences from Dark Wave and Electronica. The fuzzy production does not sound bad; on the contrary, it creates an artistic antithesis with the beautiful vocals, and the final result is dark and awesome. If you find yourself in a mood between dark thoughts and futuristic romance, then I am sure that you will love this track!
