Hunnie B – Save Me (Track Review)
Since she could walk, Hunnie B has been singing and playing many instruments, primarily the guitar. After a short intro, the track “Save Me” begins with some autotuned vocals, preparing the listener for probably a dance song, however, the musical continuation surprises me because I am listening to a Pop/Rock song with some 1990s influences (e.g., Tori Amos) and emotional lyrics discussing the pain of addiction to alcohol and drugs. The initial idea with the experimentation on the vocal lines sounds interesting since we usually experience it only during the listening sessions of dance songs. On the implementation level of this concept, I think that the production needs some further work because the presence of the autotuned vocals overshadows the rest of the musical instruments and makes it hard to hear the performance of the backing band. My personal opinion is that a strong and real concept like “addiction” requires a “real” approach by using the real voice of the singer without any effects, so as to boost the meaning of the lyrics and empower the positivity of spreading the right words. If the artist decided to maintain the autotuned vocals, then I would prefer that she could give a little more space in the audio mix for the rest of the musical instruments in order to offer the listener a clear view of the music as well. Overall, I would say congratulations on the concept, but try some alternative options on the music production level to raise the emotional weight of your meaningful lyrics.
