Agent Envy – No Friend (Track Review)
Artist and producer Agent Envy works and lives in New York. Her entire life has been surrounded by music; she began taking voice, piano, and guitar lessons at a young age in addition to doing songwriting and musical theatre classes. The track begins with a slow bass-based groove and the melodic female vocals, which remind me a lot of the 1990s Alternative Rock scene (e.g., L7) and the early 2000s works of Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil). Musically, the song adopts elements from both Alternative Rock and Female Metal, with the angry distorted guitars and the mid-tempo musical elements that keep the speed within logical limits. On a music production level, everything sounds OK and in place without any unneeded elements that may affect the whole result. If you could travel in time with this song, the 1990s and early 2000s would be the final destination of your trip. The production drives you safely into that legendary era with the rebellious female attitude and the lovely antithesis between the beauty (female vocals) and the beast (heavy guitars).
